Dominican Republic offers outstanding value on exceptional courses
Treat yourself to a Dominican Republic golf holiday and you won’t have to worry about constantly watching those nickels and dimes.
The Caribbean’s Capital of Golf offers golfers extraordinary value for money on some of the best golf courses you will find anywhere in the world. For guests of resorts with their own golf courses, the value is often even better, with special offers for green fees, if they aren’t already included as part of the stay.
Vacationers who like to budget their stay in advance can choose from several all-inclusive hotels right by golf courses where food and drinks are included in their stay, including premium-brand beers and spirits, as well as entertainment.
Green fees are sometimes included within hotel packages, such as at the Cocotal and Catalonia Bávaro courses with their associated hotels. Alternatively, guests may receive a predetermined number of free rounds based on length of stay, such as at the Barceló Bávaro Beach Resort’s Barceló The Lakes course—guests receive one free green fee per person for every night of their stay from May to October and for every second night between November and April. At the Iberostate Bávaro Golf Club and its Iberostar hotels, Club Premium level guests receive one free green fee per person for every night year-round. The same deal applies to the Punta Blanca Golf Club with its on-site hotels.
The cost of a golf cart—mandatory on most courses—is often the only extra expense. At the Hard Rock Golf Club, guests can use resort credits accrued for the length of stay at the adjacent Hard Rock Hotel & Casino towards golf rounds, paying only a 20 percent service fee (US$40 of the standard US$200 green fee) that includes a golf cart, use of practice facilities and unlimited food and drink from the clubhouse and on-course beverage cart.
Barceló Bávaro Beach Resort guests that prepay for four carts when they play their first round at Barceló The Lakes enjoy a 25 percent discount on the cart rates.
Guests staying at both Puntacana Resort and Casa de Campo pay reduced-rate green fees to play their respective courses, with cart fees included, while Punta Espada’s green fee includes a cart, use of driving range, yardage book and mandatory caddy.
At clifftop course Playa Grande, a new member of global golf tourism organization IAGTO that recently reopened after a revamp by original designer Robert Trent Jones Sr.’s son, Rees Jones, golfers staying at the adjacent Amanera Resort can enjoy multi-day green fee packages that bring down the cost of each round significantly. While the green fee for one 18-hole round is US$325, a five-round package costs US$1,400—a saving of almost 14 percent—excluding shared carts (US$25) and mandatory caddies (US$40 per 18 holes plus gratuities).
Golfers have access to beverage carts on most courses, offering a range of soft drinks, beer, liquor and sandwiches that guests of the associated hotels can generally sign to their room. Drinks are included on the Barceló The Lakes course for golfers staying at the Barceló Bávaro Beach Resort. Guests at the Grand Hotel Bávaro playing the Iberostar Bávaro Golf Club course have free snacks and drinks included on the beverage carts and in the clubhouse after their round.
With the great deals available for golf vacations in Dominican Republic, you will be raising your glass to toast your savings in the Caribbean’s Capital of Golf.
