The International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) has announced the 2016 edition of the world’s premier global event for golf tourism suppliers, buyers and media, will be hosted on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca.
The largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, Mallorca will welcome IGTM 2016, organised by Reed Travel Exhibitions, to the Palau de Congressos in Palma, the island’s capital city, November 14-17.
The popular holiday island, which saw 23.1 million passengers pass through Palma Airport in 2014, enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year and boasts more than 20 golf courses. With average temperatures rising to 25 ˚C (76˚F) in August, it is the perfect climate for visiting golfers.
Mallorca is also blessed with a host of must-see cultural attractions, entertainment hotspots and wonderful beaches, making it one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations.
Vice President and Minister of Innovation, Research and Tourism of the Balearic Islands Government, Biel Barceló, commented: “Golf is a tourist product of great importance to the Balearic Islands, and specifically for Mallorca, as more than 20 high quality golf courses continue to attract visiting golfers, especially in the low and middle season months when temperatures are mild. Golfers can fly to Mallorca in just two hours from most major European cities, which is another great advantage.
“By hosting IGTM, visitors will be able to see for themselves why Mallorca is an unforgettable experience not only as a general tourist destination, but also as one of Europe’s premier golf holiday destinations.”
Peter Grimster, Exhibition Manager, Reed Travel Exhibitions, added: “We are proud to be taking IGTM to Mallorca, one of the most beautiful islands of the Mediterranean, and with a growing reputation as a high-quality, easily-accessible golf destination.
“Palma is one of the great cities of the Mediterranean region and as the imposing Palau de Congressos as our base, I am confident IGTM 2016 will attract many of the most important and influential global golf tourism suppliers and buyers.”
More than 500 exhibitors, representing national and regional golf tourism organisations, leading resorts and golf courses are currently at this year’s event staged in Tenerife, The Canary Islands, highlighting the event’s broad appeal as an established focal point to do business.
