New owner unveils Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links

A coastal resort since the 60’s, the Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links begins 2017 as a newly refurbished hotel and golf links thanks to a significant investment by its new owners, Kennedy Wilson.

Stately and elegant, this historic property offers an incomparable coastal setting perched above the pristine five-mile Velvet Strand and overlooking its fabled golf links course designed in 1995 by the legendary Bernhard Langer.

Built in the early 19th century, the hotel epitomises the grace and beauty of what was once the ancestral home of the Jameson family famed for their distillery business. The hotel, with its stunning architecture design now boasts 134 luxurious bedrooms and amenities such as a new Spa, Gym, Conference and Meetings facilities.

Although just 20 minutes from Dublin city centre, at Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links you can enjoy a little bit of paradise, Irish-style, under the watchful eye of new Hotel Manager, David McGuinness. In the sun-splashed glazed lobby, the light pours through large windows, washing over comfortable yet elegant rooms created by Irish interior designer, Ciara Ni Laoi. Ocean inspired interior design with cool and neutral tones throughout the property ensure a calm and sophisticated feel for every visitor.

Dining options comprise three choices under the command of new Chef Tom Walsh. The 1780 is a contemporary fine-dining restaurant while The Seaview, with its panoramic view of Ireland’s Eye, offers relaxed all-day seafood-based dining where you can also unwind with a signature cocktail or treat a loved one to Afternoon-Tea-by-the Sea. The Jameson Bar, with its casual dining menu is the perfect haven for golfers and guests to re-charge in the ambience of the old Jameson family house with its original detailing and oil paintings.

Outside, newly landscaped grounds are braided with paths and vistas that open up to never-ending sea views and across to Ireland’s Eye. Grasses and plants fill the new outdoor gardens that connect to the shoreline. Guests of the hotel can walk along pathways and sandy dunes to enjoy a bracing seaside stroll to catch the sunset before retiring for dinner. This is the perfect backdrop to capture weddings and other special occasions.

Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links is truly a unique property with a fascinating story to tell, from the visits of Prince Edward VII to the ownership history including that of Eamonn Andrews and Dr. Tony O'Reilly. The late Terry Wogan hosted his wedding reception in the hotel. In fact the hotel's motto, Lux-Pax-Amor, is inspired by a plaque gifted by Prince Edward VII to the Jameson family which is on display in the grounds of the hotel.
