Originally home to the Jameson Family, celebrated for their Irish Whiskey, Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links is now an international hotel, situated on the shoreline of a rugged peninsula jutting out into the Irish Sea and home to a magnificent 18-hole championship links.
The Links Portmarnock, designed by Bernhard Langer, opened for play in 1995. It was fitting that Langer chose this magnificent setting to design his first links course, being a three-time winner
of the Irish Open at nearby Portmarnock Golf Club and the Royal Dublin Golf Club. Together with architect Stan Eby, he designed a course that is a challenge for all golfers. Set in the grounds of the old Jameson Estate of St Marnocks, the course has played host to professional and amateur events, including 2008 and 2009 Ladies Irish Open.
The recent investment programme by new owners Kennedy Wilson saw extensive upgrades to the course, the creation of a short game area, riveting of traditional links pot bunkers, grass pathway and enhancements that make full use of the dunes and natural terrain. The investment, also saw the hotel’s 90 bedrooms getting refurbished as well as new meeting rooms, a new Spa and Gym and lounge and it is now more welcoming than ever.
With its beautiful setting, on a five-mile- long Blue Flag Beach, ‘Velvety Strand’, it’s hard to believe that Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links is just 20 minutes from Dublin’s city centre and only a 10-minute drive from Dublin airport.
