Quinta do Lago makes history in new golf rankings
Quinta do Lago is flying high at the forefront of European golf after the Portuguese resort was the only venue to have three golf courses included in Golf World magazine's respected ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe 2019' rankings.
The award-winning luxury golf and lifestyle resort took centre stage in the new edition of the highly-regarded biennial list with all three of its 18-hole championship layouts - the North, South and Laranjal - featuring for the first time in its history.
Leading the way at number 29 was the South Course, with the eight-time host of the Portuguese Open climbing an eye-catching 27 places into the top 30 of the magazine's best courses in Europe.
Laranjal also made a significant move after being included in the prestigious list for the first time since opening in 2008, with the North Course completing Quinta do Lago's impressive achievement after being ranked 97th in the standings.
Sean Moriarty, chief executive at Quinta do Lago, said: "All three courses are very special to those who play in Quinta do Lago, so it is a pleasure to have our entire golf offering included in these benchmark rankings. The golf operations and greenkeeping teams at Quinta are exceptional and create a world-class experience for each and every golfer here.
"The South Course has long been acknowledged among Europe's most prestigious golf venues and it's a real pleasure to see it ranked inside the top 30. The North Course, which we revamped in 2014, continues to impress everyone that plays it while Laranjal's move into the top 100 is well deserved and, we believe, long overdue."
Set just 15 minutes from Faro airport in Portugal's famous Algarve region, Quinta do Lago has been at the forefront of Europe's elite golf, sports and family destinations for nearly five decades and boasts a combination of world-class golf and lifestyle facilities.
As well as three 18-hole championship golf courses and outstanding practice facilities, guests can enjoy all kinds of sports at the state-of-the-art performance centre The Campus, a world-class sports hub designed for professionals and amateurs alike to train and live well.
Complementing the golf is a choice of 13 first-class bars and restaurants that deliver a range of delicious local and international cuisines, with accommodation on offer at the resort's recently-acquired boutique hotel, The Magnolia Hotel.
The four-star boutique hotel is offering outstanding value on bed- and-breakfast golf breaks this autumn, with two-night stays including a free round of golf bookable from €240 per person.
